With over 100,000 miles in 3 years of personal use, I’ve found that the Bell Pit Boss helmet has served me well but it’s time to retire it and move on to another helmet.
When I went looking for a helmet 3 years ago, I knew exactly what I wanted and was lucky enough to find the Pit Boss. At just under 2 pounds, it was light enough to not fatigue my neck on 500+ mile days and had a micro-fiber type perimeter liner that proved to be quite comfortable (a mesh top liner with comfort pads also helps to control sweat on those hot days). The interior is antimicrobial/antibacterial to help keep the scalp from itching and funky smells at bay. The neck curtain zips out for hot weather use and features speaker pickets if needed.
One of the best parts of the “Pit Boss” is the drop-down sun shield. Not only is it great when heading into the sun, but it also helps to keep the wind off my eyes and I can wear my clear glasses or sunglasses underneath without interference. The drop-down shield is also available in clear and is easy to change out.
What makes the Pit Boss truly unique is the “Speed Dial” adjustable fit system. Simply put the helmet on and adjust the tension for a perfect fit (great for heads in the half-size range). If the Speed Dial is not your thing, simply remove it.
The Pit Boss is Department of Transportation (DOT) approved and has a tri-matrix composite shell made of a Kevlar/carbon/fiberglass material. What will be my next helmet? Why a Pit Boss of course!
