Sturgis 2012 on Film: When a Thousand Words Isn’t Nearly Enough

There was a lot going on in Sturgis, and we couldn’t possibly tell you about it all in this blog post.

What we offer up here is two and a half minutes of footage that highlights the happenings at this year’s Sturgis Rally in South Dakota.

And if a photograph is worth a thousand words, this footage goes far and beyond what anyone could describe in a blog post. We present a collage of sights and scenes from this year’s rally, from bikini-clad dancers to bad ass motorcycles, and  impromptu sword swallowers and flame and smoke filled burnouts.

If you missed this year’s motorcycle Mecca on Interstate 90, then consider this video Cliff Notes for next year’s event. Because as sure as Harley produces loud bikes, Sturgis 2013 will draw a half-million more bikers to this Black Hills community next Aug. 5-13. Start making plans now.

    Where were the Indian bikes?
It’s sad that an event that was started by Indian riders doesn’t show any Indian bikes there. I know Indian was there. But such is life in the Harley world.

Looks like a fun time. Wish I had lots of money to enjoy a week long party. Rides are free, but the fuel cost.

I rode from central ca and back. I had a great time. Lots of motorcycles, women (to look at), and plenty of people to meet from around the country. I don’t drink, smoke or have tats, but I had agreat time. The bars were a blast with One Eyed Jacks getting my vote for lots of fun. Will be a regular for many years to come. Retired and Bald and still having fun at 60.

I’m glad to see some postings by the 60+ set. Don’t know when I’m going to accomplish this bucket list item – maybe in 2015. I’ll hopefully have my Ultra Classic CVO by then – if not then I’ll still be ridin’ my ’99 Vulcan Nomad.

Been going since 2004. Have a great time doing Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Spearfish Canyon, Devils Tower, Custer Park Wildlife Route, Crazy Horse and all the little towns in the Hills.

In the nine times that I have been there, I have never had a alcoholic beverage. I go for the rides and people watching. Always stop at J&P. Great folks.

Have been riding to Sturgis for quite a few years. Tied it this year into a trip to Wyoming and Montana to ride the mountains. Sturgis still needs to find a way to better handle traffic moving through town. To sit on a air cooled engine for an extended time sure is no fun. Was their on Thurs and also thought the attendance looked light compared to past years. Street event like the ones going on outside the new expanded bar on the strip. The Full Throttle needs to find an easier way to get bikes in and out. I will continue to ride out and enjoy Sturgis as long as possible. Really just like the bikes, women etc. Don’t really do much drinking……….

was glad to c j p there again this year, always a pleasure to purchase from u other than spend a fortune with harley. needed to buy new footboards and u were there to supply them. and by the way attendance was way up this year. if u go to sturgis u have to expect to spend some bucks, thats just the way it is.

Just one question about Sturgis: Were there any coalitions of bike riders there that were not into
tattoos, piercings, drinking and drugging, and just
plain raising hell and came together just to enjoy
    riding and owning motorcycles?????

    • lavonne August 29, 2012 at 2:23 pm

We are in our 60’s & we got up early went over to Sturgis & shopped & visited all the bike shops. Road most of the rides around Sturgis. We left about 6:00 before most of the crazy stuff started. No drugs, tattoos, but do drink alittle beer, but not when we ride. Loved the country & will ride 2000+ miles again next year to experience Sturgis!

    • meyerman September 11, 2012 at 6:21 pm

  22. knucklebucket Tom August 28, 2012 at 1:48 pm

  23. LISA August 28, 2012 at 1:11 pm

    Plan on going in 2014.

  24. Burt Goldin August 28, 2012 at 8:58 am

The J&P cycles set up was, no doubt, one of the highlights of the event. So great to be able to stop in some place where everyone knows what they’re doing and has a dedication that matches my own. Bought new V&H pipes and the guy who helped me made sure I had a perfect fit, the best price, and everything I needed before I left. Plus the crew there was just great to hang out with.
J&P, you never let me down

  25. Steve August 28, 2012 at 8:11 am

No this is what we call Sturgis, great video will pass it along. Nice Job covering the event.

  26. Cathy Christman August 28, 2012 at 6:50 am

On my bucket list, to get done…

    • Mark August 28, 2012 at 10:59 pm

  27. Michael August 28, 2012 at 6:23 am

    Off the Chain

  28. ron derr August 28, 2012 at 12:49 am

sure looked like attendance was down again this year which is good its too money hungry. they should starve for a whilke then maybne they might get in the real world.

    • LISA August 28, 2012 at 1:10 pm

Don’t you know by now it’s all about the money that’s what keeps the towns going. Beside if you go to an event like this you know you are going to spend the money.

Have some fun and live life to the fullest you sure can’t take it with you.

      • Al Hanson August 28, 2012 at 8:51 pm

You are right, you sure can’t take your money with you . Have fun because it might not be there for you .

    • RAY RAY August 28, 2012 at 4:09 pm

RON, I don’t understand what you mean by too much money. let me hip you to that that real world.
those vendors have to pay outragious amounts to be there and i’m talking thounds plus local fees and taxes, they have to get there for me it would be 6.5 miles per gallon and $4.00 per gallon, nobody lives in STURGIS. their products still cost and they still have to make a profit. now consider if they have any kind of crew , they have to be paid also. the purpose of going to sturgis is the large number of customers. a small piece of pie in larger numbers makes up for a big slice of pie in a nothing show, where only a few people go. i hope this gives you an insight
