Meet The Team: Lowell Anderson, J&P Cycles’ Product Specialist

Lowell Anderson has a passion for motorcycles that began with a habit of “borrowing” his friend’s Dad’s XV1100 Virago on occasion when his friend’s Dad wasn’t home and taking it for long rides without the benefit of a driver’s license.

Then after a bad breakup with a girl who shall remain nameless, he hocked the engagement ring and bought a Suzuki GSXR750. While scooting around town, acquiring an impressive number of speeding and reckless op tickets, a friend talked Lowell into take a road-racing training course so he could participate in a local circuit. He took his friend’s advice and loved racing.

Later in life Lowell applied for a job at KTM and was given an entry-level position. He quickly worked his way up, becoming senior manager for the Hard Equipment product line and the KTM brand. During his time at KTM, Lowell learned how to ride off-road bikes, and pretty soon he was racing local motocross and select GNCC races.

Lowell has been married for 14 years, has two young daughters, and still continues to ride and work on motorcycles of all types.

J&P Cycles: What compelled you to get so involved with motorcycles?

Lowell Anderson: I love speed. I used to love building street rods and taking them down to the local drag strip, but there was always something breaking, so I switched to bikes. They were cheaper to build and could take a lot more abuse!

J&P: What did you do prior to coming to work for J&P?

LA: I managed retail grocery stores, owned my own electronics business, worked as a senior manager at KTM, and was the CI brand manager for Cycra Racing.

J&P: What exactly do you do at J&P?

LA: I am a product specialist. I go and find the parts that our customers need — or want — and I make sure they are added to our product line and represented properly.

J&P: What do you currently ride?

LA: I currently have a Suzuki TL1000R, a 1987 Honda Shadow bobber, a ’79 Yamaha XS750 bobber and a 2008 KTM 250 SXF. I ride them all, depending on what I feel like doing or not doing.

J&P: What do you like most about your job with J&P Cycles?

LA: I like working with motorcycles, but I have learned over the years that working with good people is what makes you happy. I love motorcycles, but if I had to work in a shop that had tons of bikes and boring people, I would hate it. J&P has some really good, well-grounded people working here.

J&P: What is your dream bike?

LA: To be honest I would love to take a bike that would go over 200 mph and go to Bonneville. I love that rush, and I would like to break to 200 mph mark before I die. I would also like to have Nicky Hayden’s Ducati GP bike, but I can’t afford that either.

J&P: What are you currently reading?

LA: I read all kinds of magazines that have anything to do with off-road or on-road bikes. I also read the Bible quite a bit; it helps me keep things in perspective.
