For as long as we can remember, J&P Cycles and the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building have been joined at the hip, and this year in Sturgis promises to be no different. J&P Cycles is always proud to be an Official Partner of the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building, where gifted motorcycle designers from around the world display their unique builds during this, the granddaddy of all motorcycle rallies.

For those who are unfamiliar with the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building, the event exists to showcase and promote international custom motorcycle design and engineering quality, craftsmanship and innovation, and to promote the evolution of custom motorcycling in general. The set-up day for receiving, registration and run testing of competing bikes is Sat., Aug. 6, with the competition itself running from Sunday, Aug. 7, through to the awards ceremony at 3p.m. on Wed., Aug. 10.

The awards ceremony — in fact, the entire World Championship — will be broadcast live via the Internet at

Believe us when we say the road to Sturgis is a long one for AMD competitors. In all, there are 20 AMD affiliate events in 19 countries outside the U.S., and the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike competition at the 12-city Progressive International Motorcycle Shows here in the U.S.

Categories for the open entry competition in the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building include: Freestyle, Modified Harley, Production Manufacturer, and Performance Custom. Judging is by ‘peer group review’ with past and present competitors and selected industry experts voting for the bikes they think are tops in their respective class. And as we’ve done in the past, this year J&P Cycles will help choose the Partner Pick of Excellence Award, which recognizes one additional bike builder for going above and beyond with their entry.
