Let There Be Light
I recently upgraded my Roadking with the J.W Speaker adaptive LED Headlight and LED Spot Lights. I’ve had them installed now for a few hundred miles and so far, so good. Installation was easy and the lights had a feel of quality to them. Since my bike is older and uses the screw in wiring on the spot lights, I had to add terminals to the wires. But, that was simple. The headlight requires a mounting kit for 1994-2014 models. With my bike being 20 years old, I was happy to use the kit, which replaced my old stripped out mounting bracket. Once the lights were in, it was go time. I turned the switch to see a pretty cool starting sequence as the light cycles through all of the separate LEDs. It was clear the J.W. Speaker light was bright, especially when I switched to high beams. The spot lights added even more light. It was time to see how it actually performed in the real world.
The Road Test
It was still daylight when I left work after the install, so I did not get to see much difference on my ride home. After doing some chores at home and catching up on my social media junk for the day, I decided to go out for a night ride to check out the new set up. Even in my driveway I could tell a difference, which was impressive considering I already previously had an LED. Once out in my neighborhood, I could see the light fill the dark blind spot as I leaned to turn. It was cool, but I wasn’t sure that it was very beneficial. I was happy with the light and went home to get some sleep.
When the weekend came, I was able to see the true capabilities of the Adaptive LED. The Texas country back-roads with few to zero street lights were exactly where this light shines, no pun intended. Going into a curve that would have limited visibility with a typical light was a different experience with the adaptive LED. The blind spots are lit up as you lean. It’s something you have to see.
Overall visibility is amazing with the Headlight. If you have spot lights I suggest upgrading them as well. They really make a huge difference and enhance your overall field of vision during night riding. With all of that, the light is a knock out. There are only a couple of things that fall under the cons list. Those being cost, and that some say they do not see the LED in the day light as well as a typical incandescent head lamp. I feel the light is very visible during the day, and the nighttime benefits more than outweigh the cons. If you want the latest in lighting technology, then you have to check out the J.W.
