Garage-Girls Ultimate Biker Entries Now Being Accepted
Entering its seventh consecutive year, Garage-Girls Ultimate Biker Makeover, sponsored by GEICO Motorcycle, is at it again! You could score a huge list of parts and accessories for you and your motorcycle just by describing why you are most in need of a Biker Makeover.
“The idea behind this contest came from personal experiences of being involved in larger charity bike giveaways. Those events always targeted larger groups and organizations. I never got to see the impact it had on an individual. That was why this contest came about, to lift someone up directly, to meet new people and share experiences,” says Sara Liberte, founder of Garage-Girls.
Over the last seven years, Sara’s mission has had a profound effect on six lucky, well-deserving winners. Take a look at the previous winners:
For the grand prize, it wasn’t just Victoria who got herself outfitted—her bike got “hooked up” as well. The new features included a dyno run, parts by Kuryakyn, chrome, 100-spoke American Wire Wheels wrapped with Pirelli Night Dragon Tires, a new Mustang seat and some special pinstripe work by artist Dan Kite.
Seeing the finished product was an emotional experience for Victoria, who became slightly tearful as the bike was unveiled; she called the prize a “blessing.” She said the seat and speakers will prove especially handy for playing patriotic music along the long rides she takes as a Patriot Guard Rider attending soldiers’ funerals. Victoria is a regional representative for America’s 9/11 Foundation and a volunteer with the non-profit Soldiers’ Angels.
David scored a combination of riding accessories and components for his 2008 Victory Vegas. When asked what he was most excited about, David told Garage-Girls, “I’m really liking that Mustang seat, and I know my wife is going to be excited about it as well.”
Pat shared her story of continually making self-sacrifices to provide her children with all she could, which included giving up her motorcycle. With her children grown she is asking for help in fulfilling her dreams of getting back out on the road. Mary and Pat were both treated to a fun-filled day, each receiving all-new gear and accessories for themselves and their motorcycles.
Mary shared her story of experiencing the loss of her mother and then being informed she was diabetic. After focusing on her health and making changes to her new condition, she has found herself many pounds lighter and with riding gear that no longer fits her properly.
“This year I had loads of problems with the bike that needed attention, and I really needed some warmer clothing for riding. I felt I had better not let an opportunity like this slip by one more year … Knocking on wood, fingers crossed and a million prayers later, I was informed I’d made it to the next round. I was notified I had won the contest in early August, and three days after notification the first of the prizes started to arrive,” says winner Marilyn Bragg.
“It was getting tougher to go through the many submissions, we all felt each and every one deserved to be chosen as the winner,” says Sara Liberte. “Even Katy in her submission stated there are more people deserving than she is, but would be most grateful for the opportunity.”
Gibbany was among 184 contestants who sent in a 600-word essay describing why they are most in need of a Garage-Girls Ultimate Biker Makeover. Her essay touched upon her sacrifices and commitment to “hunker down” and put herself through school in order to open new career opportunities.
2015: Could it be you?
To enter, contestants (men and women) must submit an essay of 600 words or less along with a photo (jpeg no larger than 5mb) to Garage-Girls, describing why they are most in need of a biker makeover.
The deadline for entries is July 8, 2015. Submissions will be narrowed down to the final four by a select panel of judges from Garage-Girls based on who they feel most deserves the Ultimate Biker Makeover.
The prizes include: a wardrobe of shoes from Harley-Davidson Footwear, a case of full synthetic oil from Spectro Oils, a new Mustang motorcycle seat, a set of tires from AVON Tires, a motorcycle helmet, jacket and gloves by J&P Cycles and Roland Sands Designs, clothing by Hinjinx Apparel, and motorcycle parts by Bikers Choice, Klock Werks and more.
