New Year = New Opportunity To Take Life by the (Handle) Bars

December 10, 2014 | By: Jeff Maddox

Biker Tunnel VisionSo 2015 is upon us. Every New Year is an opportunity to take life by the bars and make it epic! If you are the type to make those quick resolutions that just never take hold, here’s a challenge for you: try harder, go farther and make every day count.

I am convinced that 2015 will be a great year. I’m already making plans for what it is I’m going to accomplish and just because motorcycles are going to be involved only makes it better. Not only am I going to travel as far as I can every chance I get, but I’m also setting some personal goals that will … Continue Reading

Guest Blogger Maddox Shares How He Spots a Motorcyclist

1

November 15, 2014 | By: Jeff Maddox

Playful boy sitting in a box at homeIt goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway – we are all bikers here. How do I know this? How can I tell if you’re a rider or a wannabe rider? It’s easy because it takes one to know one. Here are a few things that truly give it away.

1) Do you smell like a strange concoction of “outside” and exhaust? Of course you do. You either ride a motorcycle or you spend time on the back of one. If we could put this smell into a bottle and sell it, it would be called “Lifestyle.”

2) When was the last time you looked in a mirror? It’s … Continue Reading

Cool Weather, Rainy Weather – We Ride Motorcycles, Right?

13

September 10, 2014 | By: Jeff Maddox

RainFor some of us the riding season is winding down. That bit of a chill you feel in the morning ride isn’t a fluke, it’s more of a hint that cooler weather will be the norm. So are you a fair weather rider? Do you close the garage door at the first sign of cloudy and cool? Fear not my friends we ride motorcycles, remember? Sure, there are all sorts of cold-weather riding gear out there for those who want to hang on to the warm temps of summer. But for me I’ll stick to the more traditional gear of bikers past: a good pair of insulated gauntlet gloves, … Continue Reading

The Smell of New Motorcycle Tires

2

July 24, 2014 | By: Jeff Maddox

TiresAh, the smell of new tires. If you’re like me, there isn’t anything better than knowing you have two new tires on your bike. I know it’s painful to the wallet to put them on, but it’s a necessary evil when you ride motorcycles. And when you really ride, putting a lot of miles on your bike it can be quite painful a couple of times a year.

Every year before I hit the road for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, I have new tires put on. I really struggle with it when I see I still have a few miles left on the old ones and it seems … Continue Reading

Blogger Shares Thoughts About the Start of Riding Season

June 5, 2014 | By: Jeff Maddox

JP1974This time of year always makes me smile when I think back to some of the motorcycles I’ve owned over the past 40 years. As the weather clears, my mind shifts from worrying about the unpredictability of weather to riding more miles on my bike. I love how these memories always put me back on the bikes I used to own. We all have these memories of motorcycles we used to ride, and over the years I’ve owned quite a few (some I would even like to have back and others not so much). Rest assured, every one of them got me to the place I am today. I love … Continue Reading

Get Ready to Ride

Editor’s Note:What appears below is a guest blog post from veteran biker Jeff Maddox, who regularly holds court over at the JMAdog blog.

Are you prepared? The riding season is upon us and I for one need to get out and do a little back road traveling. But really, are you prepared? I know the first thing that comes to mind when presented with that question is usually a “yes!” New tires, oil changed, your bike is cleaned up with a full tank of fresh gas, of course your bike is ready. But the question is, are you prepared?

It’s been a long, cold winter. More snow in … Continue Reading

This is the time of year when the majority of riders have an internal struggle regarding whether or not to ride. For the most part, we are in the grips of ever-changing weather, colder temperatures and nasty roads. We always have our eyes on the weather for the sliver of hope that “today, we will ride.” We are cursed with this and I would argue that we think more about our bikes when we can’t ride, because when the weather is consistently good, we ride without … Continue Reading

Riding the River to the J&P Cycles Open House Rally

August 21, 2013 | By: Craig Johnson

Editor’s Note: What appears below is a guest blog post from AirHawk’s own Craig Johnson and his journey to get to this year’s J&P’s Open House Rally. For those who reside in the Midwest, the Great River Road is a fantastic and scenic option for a nice motorcycle ride. Johnson notes what you can see on that route in Eastern Iowa/Western Wisconsin.

River Ride 1The day started around 6:15 with the push of the garage door opener, and the good mood began. Another push of a button and the office thundered to life rumbling with anticipation. The work day was about to begin.

Like any day in the office, my desk started … Continue Reading

Winter was a long one – for sure! For those of you who have had to sit and look at your motorcycle from the shop stool in the garage, you may have been taking mental notes of the spring and summer to come: where to go, when to go and who might be coming with you have crossed your mind while patiently waiting to pull the bike back onto the highway. It will be a great summer if you just let it. Be patient, relax when you … Continue Reading
