As presenting sponsor of the AMA Pro Flat Track, J&P Cycles has the inside scoop to all things flat track racing. Here AMA Flat Track Champion Joe Kopp takes you inside the race, explaining what the series is all about. Additional insight is provided by 2012 AMA Pro Grand National Champion Jared Mees and AMA Pro Flat Track Announcer Barry Boone.
History has shown that the kickoff to the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship presented by J&P Cycles in Daytona Beach, FL is always full of surprises. This year was no exception. During last night’s season opener, Mikey Rush of California won the second national of his career. His first win came at the old Municipal Stadium short track in Daytona in 2007.
Last year, during the 2012 season opener, two first time winners, Johnny Lewis #10 and Matt Weidman #20, both won their very first AMA Grand National Flat Track events.

It’s time to step out of our usual V-Twin cruiser niche and take a look at another aspect of the motorcycling universe. Last weekend I went to the AMA Monster Energy Supercross in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a traveling circus that crisscrosses the country for 16 weeks culminating in the season finale in Las Vegas.
Supercross, for those not familiar, is basically a condensed version of motocross that is held in everything from football stadiums to the tri-oval at Daytona International Speedway. It features close racing, lots of bar banging and high flying jumps. This is a young man’s sport in which some of the best athletes in the world … Continue Reading

Everything’s packed up and put away, and the 2011 season is a distant memory as riders and teams in the AMA Outdoor Nationals begin to get ready for the 2012 Supercross season.
Ryan Villopoto put his Kawasaki on the podium enough times this year to win both the AMA Supercross and Motocross titles, while Ryan Dungey struggled through the tail end of the season, unable to retain his 2010 No. 1 plate.
Once the outdoor season ends, the teams and riders start negotiating for the upcoming season to decide what team they’ll be riding for. The contract negotiations usually start right after the last race and continue for a few … Continue Reading
The Vance and Hines/Harley Davidson XR1200 series kicked off its second season with a bang in Daytona with lots of new faces on the grid. Five time Daytona 200 winner Scott Russel, 2007 Daytona 200 winner Steve Rapp were among those to join the exiting class in 2011 along with J&P riders former dirt track superstar Joe Kopp and young gun Michael Beck. We had a chance to catch up with some of the riders during qualifying, here’s how the race unfolded.

You probably already know that J&P
Cycles is sponsoring Joe Kopp and Michael Beck in the Vance and Hines XR1200 Series for the 2011 race season — and we’re proud to be doing so. When an opportunity arose to chat with Joe about his upcoming race in Daytona, we took full advantage of it, and here’s what Smokin Joe had to say:
J&P: So Joe, your first race is right around the corner. What are you doing to prepare for the upcoming season?
Joe: Well, I’ve been getting in shape and riding as much as I can. Unfortunately, I live in Spokane, Washington, so I haven’t had great weather here … Continue Reading
In 2009 Harley-Davison debuted the
XR1200 in the United States after originally planning to sell the bike overseas. But a public protest from this side of the pond prompted H-D to bring the bike stateside — a decision that delighted hooligans (including myself) everywhere. The XR is a mix of old school flat track and modern super-moto, wrapped up into a package that begs to wheelie, stoppie and otherwise be flogged.
With all the excitement that the
bike was stirring, V&H and Harley decided to put together a five-race series in 2010 with the emphasis on rider ability and having fun at the racetrack. It was definitely not about creating … Continue Reading
