Happy Holidays from Our Family to Yours

The holiday season is a great time of year at J&P Cycles – one we all enjoy. There are different festivities we take part in as a group: the holiday party, departmental gift exchanges and employee lunches. It’s hard to not have the holiday spirit.

As we reflect on 2013, the Open House Rally immediately comes to mind. More than 30,000 of you visited us during our 34th annual event in June. With 2014 being J&P’s 35th year in business, we’re upping the ante for the 2014 Open House Rally. Drum roll please… we’re turning this event into a 3-day rally. That’s right, 3 days! Friday, June 27 to Sunday, … Continue Reading

Happy Holidays From J&P Cycles

The holiday season is a time of year we all enjoy at J&P Cycles. We participate in different gatherings: the annual holiday party, employee lunches and departmental gift exchanges. The mood is festive and bright.

This is also a great time of year to reflect on what has taken place throughout the current year and look ahead to the new year. This year was a fantastic one for J&P Cycles. More than 30,000 of you visited us during the 33rd Open House Rally in June (mark June 29-30 on your calendar for next year).

In 2012 we looked at various ways to make shopping with us easier. We lowered … Continue Reading

America Is Great Because of Freedom, People and the Land Not Politics

J&P has two locations, our headquarters located in Anamosa, Iowa and a huge retail store in Ormond Beach, (Daytona) Florida. If you’re following the political scene at all, you know both Iowa and Florida are so-called swing states. We’re flooded with candidate visits, ads on television and phone calls. For those of you not getting this treatment – consider yourself lucky.

What has struck me through this political season, while both sides bicker constantly and the level of debate has seemingly reached a new high, is how passionately we all feel for America. Right or left, republican or democrat we have more that unites us than tears us apart. No … Continue Reading

J&P Cycles Founder John Parham Urges You to Become an Organ Donor

In the two years since I was given a second chance at life, approximately 13,000 people have died due to a lack of available organs for transplant. While I am thankful for my chance, I pray others get the needed second chance in order to move on.

Many of you know the story of my illness leading to the need for a lung transplant. Since receiving my transplant, I have had my share of ups and downs – a couple of illnesses have put me back in the hospital, but luckily I’ve been able to fight off the infections with the assistance of modern medicine and some great doctors.

According … Continue Reading

Happy Holidays

So far this winter, we’ve still got tree leaves covering the Iowa highways instead of snow. Nevertheless, the opportunity to spend time on two wheels is rapidly drawing to a close and our thoughts turn instead to winter projects and the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Here at J&P Cycles, we’re constantly inundated with hot deals and promotions, all centered around the after-holiday sales. So what I wanted to do was just take a deep breath and pause to reflect for a moment on what this season is really all about.

And of course, it’s about being thankful — just like we were taught way back in elementary … Continue Reading

A Year Later: Gratitude Follows ‘The Call’

Thankful is probably the best word I can use to describe the past 12 months in my life. As many of you know, it was a year ago this month that I received “The Call.” It was the phone call I’d been waiting months for — the message that a lung had been found for me and surgery could be scheduled.

Believe me when I say that when you receive that call, your life instantly changes. Maybe you think you’ve prepared your head for that moment, but when it occurs, a thousand thoughts and questions jostle for position in your brain, and it leaves you spinning. But, I knew that … Continue Reading

Give A Second Chance At Life: Become An Organ Donor

That time of year is upon us – at least for those of us in the Midwest – time to get our motorcycle gear together and get out on the open road. As motorcyclists, we are aware of the danger that comes along with our hobby and because of our hobby, the chance of an accident taking place is greater. Most of us don’t think about what we would do if they unthinkable happened to us or family members, but we should.

Organ donation is such an important topic and one that I am extremely passionate about. In early August of last year, I received a lung transplant. The unselfish … Continue Reading

A Holiday Blessing From Us To You

Holiday greetings from the entire J&P Cycles family! As we say goodbye to 2010, it’s amazing to think that another year has passed. For myself, my wife Jill and our son Zach, 2010 has been a tremendous twelve months for us personally.

In March, after recovering from emergency colon surgery, I developed pneumonia. Combined with an already compromised lung through pulmonary fibrosis, I became gravely ill. I spent 33 days in the intensive care unit and then another 19 days in the hospital before I was finally released. During this time, the doctors determined that my only chance for survival was to undergo a lung transplant.

On June 25 — … Continue Reading

Thank You All for Your Prayers, Kind Words and Support

It’s been a week since John Parham successfully underwent a left lung transplant, and the J&P Cycles president continues to recuperate, growing stronger every day.

Prior to the transplant, John was using 65 to 70 percent oxygen regularly. Today he is able to function with absolutely no oxygen equipment at all. In addition, he’s able to walk and get around much better than before. The improvement is evident each day as he slowly regains his strength.

Our family is especially appreciative of the many prayers, words of encouragement and support we’ve received from friends and customers these past five months.

We would also like to thank the family of the … Continue Reading
