When John Parham purchased a motorcycle Streamliner in 2006 the goal was simple, break the land speed record in the 1350 CC engine class. What is a Streamliner? It’s a vehicle designed for all out acceleration in a straight line. In our Streamliner, we chose a 79 Cubic inch Sportster engine for motivation. Of course to get our bike up to speed it would require some TLC from the J&P technical support staff. Fortunately for me, I was chosen as part of the crew to make it happen. Here are some excerpts from the journal I had kept to document my experiences.

The only place big enough to run one … Continue Reading

KawasakiH2R4I’m a gearhead. 100% dyed in the wool lover of all things mechanical. Before me, my father was a gearhead, too. He owned and raced open cockpit, open wheel cars in the Midwest. I guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. I have been fascinated with different configurations of the internal combustion engine my entire life. When my wife and I plan vacations, I look for places to go to feed my fix. When we went to Disney in Orlando, I made a point to spend a day at Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing. When we went to my wife’s childhood home near DC, the Smithsonian … Continue Reading

Motorcycle Madness — It’s Often a Hereditary Thing

By |2015-04-14T16:58:23+00:00August 18th, 2011|Categories: Editorial/Commentary Articles|Tags: , , , |

If loving motorcycles — and Harley’s in particular — is a hereditary trait, I guess you could say I came by my infatuation honestly. My dad was a mechanic and I grew up surrounded by disassembled machines, frames hanging from the garage ceiling and the intoxicating aroma of half-filled oil pans. My dad had bikes around our property before I was born, and he actually dabbled with open wheel racing with the United States Auto Club.

Dad never owned a bike when I was growing up, but back in the early ’70s, at the impressionable age of 14, he helped me pick out a 1968 Montgomery Wards Riverside 250 Street … Continue Reading

By |2015-04-15T15:20:33+00:00September 30th, 2010|Categories: News/Events Articles|Tags: , , |

As a follow-up to post from Aug. 27 (read: Bonneville: The Great White Dyno), last Saturday at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, the Ack Attack Streamliner became the fastest motorcycle on the planet. Driver Rocky Robinson piloted his streamliner to a new world land speed record of 376.156 mph and a new kilo record of 376.363. Ack Attack’s exit speed was an awesome 394 mph!

The Bub 7 Streamliner — owned by Denis Manning and piloted by Chris Carr — was the former record holder with a speed of 367.382 mph. Now that Rocky Robinson is again the fastest motorcycle rider in the world, he says he’s setting … Continue Reading

It’s the current motorcycle land speed record holder and the owner’s already been approached to put a price on this sleek machine. But more on that later. Right now we’re going to share construction and competition details of this motorcycle with any of you who have a hankering for speed and performance.

As for me, I was hooked on this svelte streamliner the first time I laid eyes on it — in full song and on its record-setting run back in 2006. The owner of this bike is Denis Manning, CEO of BUB Enterprises, which manufactures aftermarket motorcycle exhaust systems. Denis has been in the motorcycle industry for more than … Continue Reading
