Sidecar enthusiasts: Don’t forget to mark your calendar for Saturday, Sept. 11, when the 7th annual East Central Iowa Sidecar Rally gets underway at the brand new National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa.

Located at 102 Chamber Drive in Anamosa, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with many sidecars on display, sponsored by Sidecars Unlimited and the National Motorcycle Museum. Riders and spectators from across the Midwest are expected to show up in time for breakfast, running from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. at 107 North Division Street, courtesy of the Anamosa AmVets.

One of the highlights of the day will be a free rally featuring a sidecar show, followed by a ride to Stone City, coming back through Fairview and through the Wapsipinicon Park. A free three-hour safety seminar presented by “Slider” Dick Gilmore will take place beginning at 1 p.m. The seminar is called the “Golden Hour” Accident Scene Management.

And if you haven’t seen it yet, this event is a great opportunity for you and the family to visit the new National Motorcycle Museum. Tickets have been discounted to $7 per person this day, and children 12 and under visit free when accompanied by a paying adult.

The museum features more than 275 motorcycles from around the world as well as thousands of photographs, posters, postcards and pieces of motorcycle memorabilia, plus a fabulous collection of antique toys.

In addition to the rally, join us for a special dinner at 5 p.m. in the museum’s new Banquet Hall. Admission is $12 per person. To RSVP and receive a menu, e-mail John Dennis at iowasidecars [at] aol [dot] com. And as long as you’re in the area, you might as well make it a weekend and stay for The Midwest Hillclimber’s 61st annual Motorcycle Hill Climb and Swap Meet on Sunday. The swap meet starts at 10 a.m. with the hillclimb at noon. Of course you’re more than welcome to stop by local shops in Anamosa, including J&P Cycles.
