The AMA Supercross season is one of the things that help keep my sanity through the cold, dark winters that are part of life in the northern states. I admit that watching riders on TV is a poor substitute for the real thing. However, it’s better than watch hockey or the latest Netflix original. By this time of year I’m even starting to run out of projects out in the shop. It’s a long wait for the spring thaw. The Saturday evening Supercross races are a good distraction.
This year should be an exciting one. Last year the top 3 riders finished within 50 point of each other. All three are with the same teams and should be all ultra-completive.
The reigning champion, Jason Anderson, has been a top competitor the last few seasons. His Husqvarna FC450 is arguably the fastest bike on the track. He’s still consider an underdog by many. You can sure bet he’ll be riding hard to prove the naysayers wrong and defend the championship!
KTM rider Marvin Musquin has been runner up in Supercross championship for the last two season. In 2016 he finished third in the standings. Last year he was in contention all the way to the last checked flag. He’s hungry for a championship. Expect to see him battling hard every week for the top spot!
Eli Tomac finished third overall last year. He’s been runner up twice in 2015 and 2017. The 2016 season he finished fourth. He’s the reigning outdoor champion and wants nothing more than to add a Supercross championship to his trophy case. The Kawasaki rider is my personal favorite (I ride a Kawi). I will be cheering him on from my couch every week!
Ken Roczen didn’t finish the last two seasons due to injury. He was the runner up in 2016 and would have been a top contender last year if he wouldn’t have gotten hurt. His Honda factory team always brings a great bike to the races. He should be in the mix of things this year. He is also a past outdoor champion. He would love to have that number one Supercross plate!
The AMA Monster Energy Supercross champion series is a challenge for riders to consistently score points. Even the most experienced racers can crash out on any given week. Tune in, the action never disappoints.
