Third Annual Transcontinental Motorcycle Cannonball Run Set for September
August 19, 2014 | By: J&P Cycles
The third annual Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run for pre-1937 bikes will start at Daytona Beach, Florida on Sept 5, 2014 and conclude in Tacoma, Washington on Sept 21. This 17-day, 4,150 ride is scheduled to take riders through 10 states with a limited number of interstate miles with designated stops at five motorcycle museums along the way, and over a dozen hosted stops at motorcycle dealers. These organized stops will allow classic bike enthusiasts, motorcycle fans and anyone interested in these amazing machines and their riders an opportunity to check them out in person.
The Motorcycle Cannonball is not as much of a race as a test of rider endurance and their machine’s road-worthiness. You won’t see any scantily-clad babes sliding out of a Countach at this event, but you will see some amazing motorcycles. No less than 110 competitors from around the world are scheduled to participate on an amazing display of classic motorcycles that includes Harley Davidsons, Indians, Hendersons, BMWs, Moto-Guzzis, Moto-Freras, Rudge and others.
The five opportunities for classic motorcycle enthusiasts to check out the Cannonball in person at the following Museum locations.
- Late afternoon Sept. 7; The Coker Tire World Headquarters and Museum – Chattanooga, TN
- Late morning Sept. 8; Cyclemos Motorcycle Museum – Red Boiling Springs, TN
- Late morning Sept. 14; Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum – Colorado Springs, CO
- Late afternoon Sept. 16; Legends Motorcycle Museum – Springville, UT
- Afternoon Sept. 21; LeMay Museum – Tacoma, WA
The line-up of Cannonball riders includes a few ladies. The allure of the transcontinental motorcycle ride and the prestige that comes along with it was documented previously in our series Women In Motorcycle History Series, where we chronicled a few women who made a name for themselves by crossing the US on motorcycles similar to what you will see in the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run. If you like motorcycles, classic bikes or have an inkling of petroleum coursing through your veins then we recommend you check this out. If you don’t happen to live along the route and you need a reason to ride somewhere, maybe this is it.
