Thanksgiving 2013

November 27, 2013 | By: Scott Holton

ThanksWow, what a wake-up call. It’s the time old adage – you don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone, or in my case, almost gone. No lie, earlier this month, my life virtually passed before my eyes.

In early November while on my post at work, I was having difficulty breathing. A couple of the supervisors were concerned and asked if I wanted to go home. Being the hardhead I am, I refused to leave and finished my shift. I had been a little more tired than usual, and with the next day off, I figured I’d recover and be fine.

The following day, my wife came home and … Continue Reading

Introducing Guest Blogger Chris Hagest from Low and Mean

November 20, 2013 | By: Chris Hagest

Chris at BenchEditor’s Note: This is the first in a series of blogs from Chris Hagest over at Low and Mean. Chris is currently working on a customization for J&P’s 35th anniversary Bolt. Without further ado, meet Chris. I see no reason why a motorcyclist has to weld or cut-up their motorcycle to make it a reflection of who they are. Bolt-on aftermarket products are a great way for any rider to personalize their bike. It’s that type of thinking that moved me to start Low and Mean, which specializes in designing bolt-on aftermarket parts for metric cruisers.

It started a few years ago when I purchased some bolt-on products for my … Continue Reading

Approaching Holidays are About More than Gifts

November 20, 2013 | By: Lowell Anderson

Christmas GreetingsWell the holidays are here, and it’s that time of the year to start thinking about gifts, cards, and spending time with family and friends. Now while that may sound alright, in my opinion, we have lost the whole meaning of the holiday. To me the holidays have become a time of immense pressure and stress. Walking into my local big-box retailer starts to become a real adventure this time of the year. It’s always  packed with more people than I care to be around – all wandering the aisles aimlessly trying to find those perfect gifts. Every year, it seems like the stores are trying to push you into … Continue Reading

Meet the Team: Joe Cowan, J&P Network Administrator

1

November 19, 2013 | By: Andrea Hall

Joe Cowan, who started at J&P Cycles in Anamosa, Iowa, as a network administrator in September 2012, recently got the opportunity of a lifetime.

As a Florida native, Joe spent the last 16 years living in Iowa with his wife and children. With winter quickly approaching and both of their children nearly out of the house, Joe sent a request to the company to be transferred back to Florida to J&P Cycles’ Destination Daytona Superstore.

The move also meant more time on his 1976 Kawasaki KZ750, which Joe traded for a laptop computer 13 years ago.

Despite being limited by Iowa’s winters and cooler temperatures, Joe logged more than 7,000 … Continue Reading

Veterans Day 2013

November 11, 2013 | By: Scott Holton

FlagsHere it is, time for what seems to be my annual essay on Veterans Day. Having been a blogger since the inception of the J&P Cycles Blog, a pattern has emerged regarding national holidays with any military connection. Give it to Scott, he’s a vet, he can do it. As a United States Marine Corps veteran, I’m honored to be given the challenge to write about these holidays. I’ve just re-read the past offerings that have been posted, so I don’t repeat my ramblings.  Today, I’m going to examine the reasons I chose to enter military service.

As a young man, I came from a family whose father and numerous … Continue Reading

Product Reviews – Help Your Brothers and Sisters Out

November 8, 2013 | By: Brett Koranda

Product reviewThe migration to online commerce is a phenomenon that has transformed the marketplace over the last decade and has become a permanent fixture in the world of retailing. Like any change, there are disadvantages. Often times, in an effort to offer the widest variety of product choices, it can become a challenge as a buyer to make up your mind which way to go.  Most customers, particularly in our world, historically had enough familiarity with their bikes and their preferences to make a sound decision between the OEM brand and maybe two or three options offered at a local dealer.  Love it or hate it, we’re not in that world … Continue Reading

Harley Unveils New V-Twin Liquid Cooled Engine Models

56

November 5, 2013 | By: Lowell Anderson

Earlier this month Mother Harley released its new additions to the HD product line. The new Harley-Davidson Street 750 and 500 feature the new Revolution X V-Twin liquid cooled engines. They are entry level bikes with a lower stance and are built to be nimble and easy to ride. These bikes were released to the public at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy earlier this month.

Not sure how people will accept this new adventure for Harley. First introducing a liquid cooled platform and now introducing smaller “urban” version liquid cooled bikes is quite a change. Styling of the bikes is meant to be in your face and fresh, but … Continue Reading
