Happy Holidays from the J&P Crew!

Christmas_Story-tongue_02It’s that time of year again where we all gather with our family and friends for the holidays. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas or even Festivus (for the rest of us)-it isn’t a matter of being faithful to your beliefs, but rather it’s the time to reflect on what we are thankful for in our lives and these holidays are intended just for that.

I know some of you might bash this, and you have every right to say that, but I feel Christmas has become a commercialized corporate holiday. I personally don’t care about gifts or rushing to a store at 3 a.m. on a Black Friday to snag the best deals. What matters to me is being able to spend time with my family and friends, especially when I don’t always have the chance to do so during the year.

I look forward to the holidays every year because of the traditions my family has taken part in for years and years. The first and foremost important factor to kick-off the holidays at my house is a 24-hour marathon of our favorite movies like “A Christmas Story,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “The Grinch,” “It’s A Wonderful Life,” and the classic “Home Alone!”

Forget the eggnog and presents, I’ll take this movie night with my family any day of the year versus spending an abundant amount of money on material items. It is also mandatory at my house (or so my Grandmother assumes), to stuff your face all day long on both Christmas Eve and Christmas – trust me, the diet can definitely wait until the first of the year!

What are some of your family traditions during this time of year? Anything special you’d like to share with your fellow readers?
