Let’s face it. When you buy a Gold Wing you’re purchasing one of the all-time great touring machines. These bikes are built for the long haul and they’re built for ultimate comfort. If you haven’t experienced one of these machines, you probably have no clue as to the number of innovations that Honda incorporates into the Gold Wing. Stereos, navigation systems, tire pressure monitoring systems and even an airbag — yes I said airbag. And even with all these technological and engineering goodies, the folks at National Cycle have come up with a few products to make the Gold Wing experience even more comfortable.

Take, for example, the Special Edition VStream Windshield. While other manufacturers offer taller screens or air spoiler tops, National Cycle designed a windscreen with airflow that is calculated and adjusted to quiet and comfort the rider’s environment. The typical airflow pattern of the wake from most windscreens is called a von Karman vortex. At speeds of between 50 and 90 mph, the air swirls off the windscreen in an approximate 90-degree segment of rotation, hits the bottom of the rider’s neck on the way up and curves off the shoulder at approximately 45 degrees.

National Cycle gave the VStream its name for the shape it takes at the upper edge. The patented “V” shape is so quiet because it pushes this vortex out and away from the side of the rider’s head. The rider’s helmet then resides in still air. As an added benefit, the passenger’s environment is also greatly improved.

In addition, the Special Edition VStream offers unprecedented durability and optical clarity through the use of 6mm thick Lexan® polycarbonate. Polycarbonate offers outstanding impact strength —20 times more impact resistant than acrylic plastic — and it also has an exclusive Quantum coating for unbeatable scratch resistance (30 times better than stock). And in wet weather, it has an exclusive Rainzip™ treatment that forms raindrops into beads, enabling them to be blown away, thus keeping the windscreen clear. The windshield also comes with the vent pre-installed for easy installation.

The second item on this week’s Two for Tuesday menu are the National Cycle Wing Deflectors, a perfect compliment to the windscreen for a complete air-management package for your GL1800. Available in a fairing mount or mirror mount, the deflector is manufactured from hard-coated polycarbonate for outstanding impact strength. They’re so tough that National Cycle even warranties them against breaking in a tip-over. Exclusive swivel ratchets give the rider easy, independent adjustment of each wing by simply grasping them and rotating them to the desired angle. Set them at the angle you want and they’ll stay there – even at 90 mph!

So before you think you’re sitting at the pinnacle of comfort, take a second look at the innovations from National Cycle. Then put the finishing touches on your Gold Wing with some trick air management products made right here in the U.S.A.
