The ‘Heads Up’ on Purchasing a New Motorcycle Helmet

Buying a motorcycle helmet is such a personal decision, and that’s mostly because there are so many factors toconsider before making a commitment. Just google the words “motorcycle helmets” and you’ll be presented with more than two million search results. That’s pretty overwhelming — so many shapes and sizes, so many styles, so many colors, so many safety requirements. Then there are the legal issues, with some states mandating helmets and others leaving it to the rider’s discretion. It’s mind-boggling.

But if you’re in the market for a helmet, you should research your options in order to make an educated purchasing decision. And my colleagues and I at J&P Cycles are here to make that process as simple and streamlined as possible. All helmets sold in the J&P catalog and online are DOT-approved. And since everybody’s head is different, we’ve developed a helmet-sizing guide and video that can help you find the helmet that best fits you and your lifestyle.

In addition, we’ve created a series of free training seminars designed to help you choose the right parts and accessories for your bike. Among these informational seminars is Helmet 101, and this weekend, these free events will be offered at both our Iowa and Florida showrooms, taught by a certified Bell representative. During these seminars, participants will learn how to choose the right helmet, the difference between vented and non-vented helmets, how to make a selection if using a headset, plus much more.

If you can’t make it to either of these seminars, we promise there will be plenty more.  Upcoming sessions will cover audio fairings, luggage and windshields, with additional instructional seminars in the planning stages. And we’re even exploring and developing some online seminars for those who can’t get out to these events at the showrooms. Stay tuned! In the meantime, check out our catalog and visit us online at www.jpcycles.com.
